In 1965 HUD was originally a part of the Housing and Urban Development Group in the federal government. HUD foreclosed homes are those that had insurance from the Federal Housing Administration that the mortgage would be paid if the borrower defaulted on the loan. These are single family residences but may be town homes, condominiums, or ranch homes too. The restrictions are very lax besides these few requirements so they can be any size, contain a number of appliances, or have any number of rooms included. The home does have a monetary limit on how much they will insure though so the home’s price must fall into this realm and the lender needs to be approved to be able to give borrowers FHA insured loans.

Debt counseling is often sought by people who end up in debt that is over their heads. They aren’t sure how to get out of the situation so they seek help elsewhere. Counselors work directly with the person’s debtors to make a repayment plan that works for both of them. It is important that they know just how much debt both secured and unsecured a person has. They typically only work with the unsecured debt but they are able to get a much clearer financial picture by knowing how much debt is owed in the larger picture. Usually they are able to lower the interest rate on loans or credit cards and get late and over limit fees reduced or eliminated completely. Some debt counselors will not help someone if they feel the debt owed is too large to tackle in a timely manner, usually between two to four years.
