Encino City Review

Encino is a district of the city of Los Angeles California which was established in the year 1845. It is in the center of the San Fernando Valley on the slope of the Santa Monica Mountains. Encino’s geography is something to observe. You will find Tarzana to its west, Sherman Oaks on its east, Sepulveda Dam recreational area to the north, and the Los Angeles Department of Water on the south. Some of the major roads passing through include Balboa Boulevard, Haskell Avenue, and White Oak Avenue.

Demographics
Encino’s population was 40,946 in the 2000 census. It is a predominantly white city with 89.9% of the population being white, 1.78% African-American, 4.38% Asian, .19% Native American, and 4.13% in any other races. There are 18,159 houses in the district of all types. In 2009 the Mapping L.A. project put the population at 41,905 people with an average income of $78,529 per household.

Economy
The greatest majority of the people in the district are employed directly in the health care field along with professional services and social services as well. 3,800 businesses employ these individuals.

Local Government
The largest majority of Encino is contained in the Los Angeles City Council District 5 while a small portion lies in district 6. Both Los Angeles fire stations 100 and 83 service Encino. On Ventura Boulevard the Los Angeles Public Library serves Encino.

Parks and Recreation
The Los Encinos State Historic Park is located in Encino and has a blacksmith shop, pond, and the Garnier Building along with a spring. Another is the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area. It has a golf course which was increased in length in the year 2008 by Steve Timm. You will also find club renal, lounge, putting greens, and a banquet room along with a restaurant here. There is also another golf course called the Encino Municipal Golf Course which was opened in 1957. The fairways are lined with many trees and is quite similar to the Balboa course.

Another recreation area is the Balboa Sports Complex. It includes a children’s play area, community area, lighted handball court, indoor gymnasium, an unlighted soccer field, and lighted volleyball courts. Encino also boasts a dog park that is 6.5 acres for unleashed dogs and a half acre area for small dogs. Another sight to see is the Sepulveda Garden Center which has 420 plots and 16 acres of land.

Encino has been seen in many films and television shows. In The 40-Year-Old Virgin featured a strip mall directly on Ventura Boulevard. Encino man, created in 1992, is based on the district as well. Frank Zappa also mentioned Encino in his song Valley Girl which was released in the year 1982. In the movie The Karate Kid, Ali’s family lived in Encino. They mentioned Encino Oaks and their residence was at Alonzo Avenue.

The appearances of Encino do not stop there. The video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has a museum that is located in Encino. The Bad Girls Club was filmed in Encino for the fourth season. In 1983 the movie Blue Thunder with Roy Scheider had the crew watching someone exercise in her own home. Encino is also the setting of the novel Las peliculas de mi vida translated as The movies of my life written by Alberto Fuguet.

Attractions
The stump of the California Live Oak is still present in Encino which was formerly known as the Encino Oak Tree before it died in 1998 after the El Nino Storm. The Los Encinos Historical Park which has picnic grounds, a museum, and historic buildings is also present. The largest Earth Day festival is also held in Encino directly at the Woodley Park.
